iPhone 5c Announced: Features, Release Date, Price

The iPhone 5c, Apple’s first attempt in providing colorful range, has just been officially announced, and after months of rumor and speculation, we finally have all of the official details. Read on for everything you need to know about the new iPhone 5c.

Features

Processor:

The budget model runs on the same dual-core A6 processor seen within the iPhone 5, which means daily tasks on the iOS 7 operating system should be a relative breeze. It was heavily rumored that Apple would continue using its in-house iPhone 5 SoC for the iPhone 5c, and following the announcement, we now know this to be the case.

As far as storage goes, the iPhone 5c arrives in two storage options: 16GB and 32GB. Those who were wondering whether the 5c will be available in 64GB configuration will be disappointed.

Design and color options:

As per the leaks and speculation, the iPhone 5c is comprised a polycarbonate finish to the rear, and arrives in a plethora of different colors, including green, yellow, blue, white and pink. This won’t have the same premium feel as flagship iPhone models we’ve seen, but given how many high-end smartphones, like the Nokia Lumia 920, have sported a shiny plastic finish in the past, it should still feel like a well-built Apple product to the touch.

The Home button remains at the bottom in the center, providing the same functionality it always has, while the volume rockers sit on the left-hand side. In essence, the iPhone 5c is very similar to the iPhone 5, but takes away one or two perks in order to remain as inexpensive as possible.

Wireless

Like the iPhone 5 before it, the iPhone 5c is fully supportive of 4G LTE with support for even more bands around the globe, and with many cellular providers now driving forward their efforts towards 4G, this can only be a good thing. Ideal for streaming movies and downloading music, 4G LTE ensures ultra-fast data speeds when not connected to a hotspot, and with the iPhone 5 having been the first handset to offer support, the iPhone 5S follows on in a similar vein.

Wi-Fi, meanwhile, supports both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands, which, in layman’s terms, means you shouldn’t experience much by way of interruption when using your Wi-Fi at home.

Rest is all standard, such as Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, cellular triangulation etc.

Camera

The main camera, like the processor, is borrowed from the iPhone 5, with that same 8-megapixel offering to which we’ve already become accustomed. When it did arrive late last year, it boasted better low-light performance than those of its predecessors, with an F/2.4 lens, so those with a tendency to get snap-happy on the likes of Instagram and Flickr should be more than impressed by this revelation.

The front-facing camera, meanwhile, shoots in 720p HD, and while it’s by no means comparable to the rear shooter, should still do a solid job with FaceTime HD or taking those selfies.

In the camera department, it’s set in stone that the iPhone 5c is surely a winner and will not disappoint the average user.

Battery

The battery and has been improved when compared to the iPhone 5, and should keep things ticking over through general use. With some competing devices offering over 3,000mAh, it doesn’t seem like an astonishing battery life, but with most iPhone 5 users satisfied by the longevity of their device through day-to-day usage, the iPhone 5c should once again be able to sustain a full day on a full charge.

The iPhone 5c offers 10 hours of talk time on 3G, with up to 250 hours of standby time. When it comes to Web browsing, the iPhone 5c is a champ. It offers 8 hours of 3G Web browsing, 10 hours on 4G LTE and up to 10 hours on Wi-Fi.

iPhone 5c offers 10 hours of video playback and 40 hours of audio playback.

Lightning Port

Naturally, the iPhone 5c features the Lightning dock connector, after the phasing out of the larger 30-pin connector late last year. We’d love to have seen Apple go for something a little less proprietary, but hey, that’s Apple!

Accessories

Out of the box, you get your dock connector, wall charger, EarPods headset and the usual literature, including quick-start information and, of course, your Apple stickers.

But that’s not all, Apple is also introducing new silicon cases for the iPhone 5c, and from the image (above), you can see, gives your device a really cool look. For $29, it’s a good buy and comes in a variety of color options!

New official lightning dock for iPhone 5c is also available from Apple Stores worldwide.

Price

The 16GB iPhone 5c will cost $99, and the 32GB model will cost $199 on a two-year contract. The price for the unlocked model is as follows: 16GB for $549 and $649 for 32GB.

Release Date

iPhone 5c pre-order will go live starting September 13th, and will be available in stores on September 20th.

Apple iPhone 5s Announced: Features, Release Date, Price [Everything You Need To Know]

Ah, finally.. finally, the iPhone 5s, Apple’s latest and greatest flagship smartphone has been revealed to the world. And we’ve got all the details under one roof!

Features

Processor:

The iPhone 5s packs Apple’s all-new A7 processor, which is of the 64-bit variety, the first for any smartphone in the world, which naturally delivers a stronger performance compared with that of its predecessor. This enables iOS 7′s animations to run smoothly and without any kind of lag. Of course, the A6 has been relatively strong for the iPhone 5 during the course of the last year, but with A7 pushing the boundaries just that little bit further, the iPhone 5s will surely be among the smoothest devices on the market.

So yes, in case you’re wondering, the iPhone 5s is the first ever smartphone which has a 64-bit processor. Apple goes as far as saying that ‘the other guys aren’t even talking about this’yet.

iPhone 5s also features M7 coprocessor which is designed to make the device more efficient. It helps in offloading work from the main A7 chip which results in faster performance and increased battery life. The new M7 chip also knows when you are walking, running or driving.

Touch ID + Home button:

Every new iPhone needs a feature to talk about, and the iPhone 5s has precisely that with a fingerprint sensor, which Apple is officially calling ‘Touch ID’, apart from the apt description of Home button. Enabling a device to be unlocked without typing in a PIN or password – a cumbersome rigmarole at the best of times – it brings enhanced security while also being rather cool.

But wait, there’s more, Touch ID can read multiple fingers, which means it’s not limited to your thumb, for example. Touch ID is deeply integrated into iOS 7, according to Apple, which means that you can set it up to make iTunes purchases as well. In Layman’s terms; your fingers are now your password. Win.

The traditional Home button is still there, but serves its purpose as a fingerprint sensor as well. The traditional square logo on the Home button is now a thing of the past.

Naturally, Apple has made quite a bit of fuss about the new feature, but hey, regardless of whether you see much benefit from it or not, it’s a gimmick to get it selling.

Camera:

The iPhone 5s features dual-LED flash, which not only improves low-lighting shots, but also offers more natural lighting compared with the traditional, deer-in-the-headlights look.

The rear-facing snapper is an 8-megapixel, F2.2 wide aperture lens affair, and features 1080p video recording at 30 frames per second, and up to 120 frames per second at 720p, which is a massive leap on the iPhone 5. But that’s not just it, the image sensor is now 15 percent more larger, which allows more detail to be captured in low light.

Still wondering about the 120fps part? Apple is introducing Slo-Mo with the new iPhone 5s, which lets you slow down parts of your video for that oh-so dramatic video shot.

To top things off, the iPhone 5s’ camera now takes photos in burst mode, too. If you’re into taking action shots, then the new burst mode will assure you never miss a scene.

Camera also features Auto image stabilization.

The front-facing camera, meanwhile, is a 1.2 megapixel offering, but seeing as it’s only for FaceTime and such, its purpose doesn’t stretch beyond showing vaguely viewable image.

Design:

The iPhone 5s is very much in the same vein as the iPhone 4S in that it looks almost identical to the iPhone 5. Aside from the rather distinctive Touch ID sensor, the iPhone 5s looks very similar to its older brother.

Having said that, there is one key difference; the iPhone 5s comes in a gold color configuration as well, a decision which is likely to split the crowd as much as it already has. But while we perhaps all have opinions on whether a gold iPhone is a good idea or not, the fact remains that it’s another option, which can never be a bad thing.

Color Options:

Gold, Silver, and Space Gray

Storage:

The iPhone 5s will offer 16GB, 32GB and 64GB storage configurations. In a world in which we’ve become heavily reliant upon apps, it’s good to see Apple preparing power users appropriately, and while some older models would have found 64GB of storage simply crippling, the A7 processor of the iPhone 5s should keep everything ticking over nicely.

Wireless:

The iPhone 5s offers all the usual wireless connectivity as you’d expect. Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi a/b/g/n (and no ac, which is a big bummer), 4G LTE with support for even more bands around the globe.

Battery:

Apple has a bigger battery, which offers 10 hours of 3G talk time, 8 hours of 3G Web browsing, 10 hours of Web browsing on LTE, 10 hours of Web browsing on Wi-Fi. The iPhone 5s offers 250 hours of standby time, with 10 hours of continuous video playback, and 40 hours of music.

Software:

No surprises here, the iPhone 5s will run iOS 7 out of the box, but some features are exclusive to the iPhone 5s, such as burst mode and Slo-Mo.

Accessories:

Apple has also announced the official leather case for the iPhone 5s. So, if you’re in the market and looking for a decent leather case, then the official accessory is your best bet from this point onwards.

Also announced is the official lightning dock for iPhone 5s, which is also compatible with iPhone 5.

Release Date

The iPhone 5s will be available to buy in stores on Friday, September 20th. And will be available in the following countries: US, UK, Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Japan and Singapore. This is the first time the iPhone will be available in China at launch, which is a big plus. Apple is not taking online pre-orders for iPhone 5s this year.

Price

Contract free price of iPhone 5s: 16GB for $649, 32GB for $749 and 64GB for $849.

iWork, iPhoto And iMovie For iOS Now Free For All New Devices

There had been one or two rumors floating about that Apple’s iWork Suite, along with iLife, would be going free. Leaks of app information pages seemed to corroborate this notion, and today, Apple has announced that iWork, iPhoto and iMovie will be free of charge.

iWork is the Cupertino’s productivity suite, encompassing Numbers – the spreadsheet app, Keynote – the presentation app, and Pages, which is Apple’s own answer to Microsoft Word. With Apple having recently announced a move to integrate these apps into iCloud sans Google Drive, the company is now looking to drive up adoption rates, and what better way to do so than to give the app versions away for free?

Although the apps only cost a few dollars to begin with, everybody likes a freebie, and those five apps are exactly that to anybody purchasing a new device.

Tim Cook today gave a brief demonstration at the keynote event, but while the apps don’t actually show the new iOS 7 design theme, we’d fully expect the final versions to ship with that new aesthetic language coded by Sir Jony Ive. As polarizing as the redesign has been of iOS 7, Apple is sticking to its guns, so fairly soon, every app will have ditched the skeuomorphism.

So, for all of you productive folks out there, this is a definite win, and will bestow upon you the powerful tools to get your work and documents completed on the fly. iPhoto and iMovie are ideal for tweaking images and videos, and given how many of us now use our smartphones as our main shooter, it’s good to see that they’ve now gone free.

Cook has stipulated that the apps are free to those purchasing a new device, but we’d hazard that this is merely a way of coaxing consumers into picking one up. Needless to say, the days of having to pony up money for these iconic apps are numbered.

iOS 7 GM Download Links To Go Live Today, Public Release Date Set For Sept 18th

It’s official now, iOS 7 GM download links will go live today on the Dev Center, as confirmed by Apple at their media event. First announced back at this year’s WWDC in June, iOS 7 is now ready for public consumption having reached GM stage, and will publicly become available to compatible iPhone, iPad and iPod touch devices from September 18th.

Apple has made plenty of changes to its iconic mobile software this time around, with the noticeable being the revamped user interface. Skeuomorphism will soon become a distant memory thanks to Jony Ive’s grand redesign, which sees flat shapes and clean lines throughout.

After several betas, the software is ready for prime time, and since iOS 6 was shrouded in controversy thanks to the dire state of the Maps app — something that forced CEO Tim Cook into a public apology — Apple will be hoping the latest and greatest version releases without so much as a hitch.

As well as the aesthetic overhaul, iOS 7 brings a plethora of new and exciting features. Among them is the Control Center, allowing users to readily toggle core functionality like Wi-Fi and Bluetooth without having to consult the settings app.

Folders, which first came into play alongside iOS 4, have also been extended, allowing users to add many more than the rather stingy maximum of twelve apps. The days of needing several folders to hold a large collection of games are now over, and with generally smoother animations, those with compatible devices have plenty to look forward to.

iOS 7 will only work for specific iPhone, iPad and iPod touch devices. As of September 18th, those looking to update their software will need to be in ownership of an iPhone 4 or newer, iPad 2 or newer, or the fifth-generation, latest model of the iPod touch. So if you’re rocking an iPhone 3GS or older, iPod touch fourth-gen or older, or the original iPad, you’ll need to upgrade your hardware to enjoy some of the aforementioned iOS 7 benefits. Humor: Here’s Who Will Buy The Gold iPhone 5S [VIDEO]

The iPhone 5S is expected to pack a plethora of interesting features, but in a real change from tradition, it looks as though Apple has decided to introduce a gold, or champagne color configuration. Naturally, not everybody has been impressed by this decision, and the stereotypes thrown up by prospective owners of a gold smartphone are almost perfectly encompassed by a new mock ad, released after the iPhone 5S announcement parody. The short clip involves, for lack of a more apt phrase, a douchebag, who proceeds to strut around town wielding his shiny new gold iPhone. Check it out after the break!

It remains to be seen what the reception will be to the gold iPhone 5S, but even before its release or even announcement, plenty of folks are tripping over each other to slate it.

Although personally, I probably wouldn’t want to go out and buy any smartphone in gold, I know that many folks would, and so I think additional choice, provided the black and white models remain alongside and are not replaced, can only really be a good thing from a consumer point of view.

There are many good parody videos made, particularly around the time of announcements, and this is arguably the best we’ve seen so far regarding the forthcoming Apple iPhone unveiling.

The gold iPhone 5S should arrive alongside a polycarbonate, low-cost iPhone 5C, both of which are due to be announced tomorrow. Rumor has also suggested that MacBooks, or specifically the Pro with Retina display model, could also be in line for an Intel Haswell upgrade, but regardless, we shall be reporting on all of the important details here at Redmond Pie as and when they happen, so stay tuned for that.

How To Toggle iPhone’s Display On / Off Using Wave Gesture

When it comes to gimmicky new features, all of the major smartphone vendors are at it in one way or the other, and with every new Galaxy S release from Samsung, the company has tried to impress the world with a plethora of perks. Air Gestures is one such feature, but if you’re an iPhone user with no inclination to make the jump to an Android, you probably haven’t interacted with this interesting implementation on any kind of level. Luckily, the jailbreak scene enables the rules to be broken from time to time, and if you’ve ever wanted to enjoy an element of control over device by throwing the odd wave here and there, a new tweak by the name of WaveOff has you covered. Details after the jump!

While WaveOff is not quite as feature-rich as the likes of Air Gestures, it does allow you to turn your device’s display on and off by simply waving across the proximity sensor located atop the display. Since the tweak doesn’t offer any interaction thereafter without actually touching the display, it’s rather pointless, but it is a well made, rather cool tweak.

The main point of being able to use a device without touching it is, at least by Samsung’s suggestion, the fact that you can, for example, open apps and check messages without having to touch the display. This is ideal for those with grubby fingers who don’t want to risk blemishing their treasured gadget, but unfortunately, WaveOff‘s limited offering means that once you’ve turned your display on, you’ll have to touch the display anyway.

Still, WaveOff is a paid package costing 99 cents, which is a reasonable price for a pretty good tweak. We’ve given it a try ourselves, and can confirm that it does indeed work as advertised, so if you want to get involved, you can grab it from Cydia. It’s up right now on the BigBoss repository, which is a default of your Sources list provided you haven’t opted to manually delete it.

How To Alter The Pitch Of Your Voice During A Live Call On iPhone

The Cydia Store is a cauldron of weird and wonderful tweaks, apps and themes all designed to make the iOS experience just that little bit more enjoyable. While plenty profess to enhance the software’s rather lackluster functionality, others are simply there to make iOS a bit more fun to use, and VoiceChanger, a new tweak that allows you to alter your own voice when in-call, perhaps falls under this category. With a lot of well-known character voices to choose from, you can fool your friends into thinking they are conversing with a Smurf, Dark Lord, or even Rumpelstiltskin, and if that isn’t your idea of a good joke, then, well.. you don’t have a sense of humor!

The App Store features plenty of apps allowing you to change the sound of your voice into just about whatever you like, but where VoiceChanger is interesting is in the fact that it offers the ability to process audio as you speak. This means you can be in-call and talking to one of your friends or family members, and the app will relay whatever you say in one of a number of different voices.

Those looking to enjoy the tweak will need to be rocking an iPhone 4/4s/5, since it doesn’t work with the iPhone 3GS or older, and it also requires iOS 5 or higher in order to work its voice-morphing magic.

At $2.99, it’s quite pricey for a tweak that is only to be used for fun (we wouldn’t recommend calling anybody important and offering them your best Smurf impression), but nevertheless, is still a lot of fun.

We tried it out for ourselves here at Redmond Pie, and it actually works a lot better than we’d initially thought. With more voices to be added by the developer in the future, it has the potential to be even better, so if you want to get involved, it’s available to purchase right now from the BigBoss repository.

PS Vita TV Is A Powerful Companion For PS4 And Vita, First Real Competitor To Apple TV [VIDEO]

OK, it’s been a pretty big day for Sony already, what with the announcement of the newly announced PS Vita 2013, but the Japanese firm isn’t done there. Also announced today, the PS Vita TV is much more than it may first seem, and it’s going to cost around $100 to buy, too.

As the name suggests, the new box ties in with Sony’s PS Vita console. In fact, when we say that what we actually mean to say is it kind of replaces it. See, if you’ve ever wanted to play a Vita game on your TV, then this is the box for you. Featuring slots for both Vita games and memory cards, the Vita TV takes previously handheld games and displays them on a TV screen, with controls taken care of by a Dual Shock controller. Interesting, no?

It’s not just games, either. Sony’s new diminutive box hooks into its own music and video services, putting it squarely in competition with the Apple TV, too. Twitter and Hulu are also supported, and we can only assume it’s a matter of time before Netflix is in attendance – it’s on everything else, after all!

But wait, there’s more!

As if being able to play Vita games on the big screen using a proper controller wasn’t enough, Sony says that its new Vita TV will also be able to remote play games that run on its unreleased PlayStation 4 console. That means, folks, that a PS4 and a Vita TV give you multi-room gaming without the need to buy multiple consoles. Things just got interesting, right?

The PS Vita TV takes up next to no room, either, thanks to its 60mm x 100mm footprint. It even looks the part, so you won’t mind having it out on display alongside the rest of your A/V equipment.

The complete set of specs of the PS Vita TV are as follows:

Sony says that the PS Vita TV will go on sale in Japan on November 14th for 9,954 yen – which equates to about $100 in the US – but has not yet confirmed when it will see the light of day in other territories. Another model which will cost around $150 will come bundled with a Dual Shock controller, this is something which you might want to get instead if you’re a diehard gamer. So long as it’s released before or alongside the PS4, we don’t know if we really care. What we do know though is that one of these will be getting added to our PS4 orders ASAP!

Xbox Music App For iPhone And Android Released, Free Streaming Now Available On Web Version

Microsoft has finally launched iPhone and Android apps for Xbox Music, a service that lets users stream unlimited music for a monthly subscription.

Today’s release also adds free streaming option to the web version of Xbox Music which was first launched in July this year.

Now available on Xbox, Windows 8, Windows Phone, iOS (iPhone only, native iPad version not available as yet), Android and web (for OS X and other platforms), Xbox Music is now shaping up into a compelling offering with 30 million music tracks on offer for streaming, cross platform compatibility, and free access to anyone with a desktop web browser.

Some of the basic features of the iPhone and Android app includes: streaming ad-free music, adding songs, music, albums and playlists to Collection and access them on other devices, create and sync music playlists across multiple platforms, radio stations and more.

While the Xbox, Windows Phone and Windows 8 version offers the ability to download tracks for offline playing, the just released iOS and Android versions doesn’t. But Microsoft is promising the support for offline playing coming soon in a future update to the said apps.

The subscription to Xbox Music Pass costs $9.99 per month or $99.99 per year and is required to use the apps. Free 30 days trial is available for first timers. Leaked Photos Of iPhone 5C Logic Board Shows Only Minor Changes [IMAGES]

It may be unadulterated chaos at times, but there’s little doubt that iPhone announcement weeks are some of the most exciting and interesting that we face. A culmination of weeks and often months of guessing, calculating and wishing always comes down to one glorious moment when we get to see a new iPhone for the first time.

This year is unique in that we will see two new iPhones be announced on the same day. With Apple set to unveil the flagship iPhone 5S at the September 10th event, it’s perhaps the lower end iPhone 5C that will be of most interest to us. It may technically be last year’s sheep in this year’s wolf’s clothing, but it’s going to be quite the striking package when it’s assembled. Assuming the rumors and leaks are accurate, of course.

Speaking of leaks, new photos have appeared online showing what appears to be a logic board from the unannounced iPhone 5C. Looking rather similar to the iPhone 5S parts that have leaked before, the new shots show a board with shielding that prevents prying eyes from seeing just what markings the chips are adorned with underneath. All the mounting holes seem to be in the same place as those iPhone 5S leaks, too, so fitting in with leaked cases and shells that have suggested the same thing already.

Apple is set to announce both the flagship iPhone 5S and the cheaper iPhone 5C on this coming Tuesday. With the iPhone 5C coming in a range of striking colors and essentially being an iPhone 5 in a new body, buyers of the budget-conscious device will not only get a very good smartphone on the inside, but also one that will grab attention on the outside.

We’ll find out in a couple of days just what the folks in Cupertino have been working on for the last twelve months, and we’ve got a sneaky suspicion that whatever it is, it’ll sell in the millions.

iOS 6.1.4 Jailbreak With Cydia Running Successfully On iPhone 5 [IMAGE]

Evasi0n jailbreak which brought forward the first ever untethered jailbreak solution on devices running iOS 6.x was patched by Apple in iOS 6.1.3/6.1.4 firmware releases. Last week we reported that an untethered 6.1.3 jailbreak was indeed possible, but was not publicly available since it needed some work. Today, we have even more good news, this time for those running iOS 6.1.4 on the iPhone 5.

iOS 6.1.4 was released back in May for iPhone 5 users only and it brought forward a minor bug fix. The small update, which weighs in at 11.5MB, was unjailbreakable, until now.

Developer Winocm, who achieved the untethered jailbreak on iOS 6.1.3 last week, tweeted out an image today of iOS 6.1.4 running Cydia on an iPhone 5. Details as usual are scarce at this very moment. We can only assume that progress is being made and Winocm’s exploit is indeed capable of jailbreaking iPhone 5 on the aforementioned firmware.

For those who are eagerly waiting for an untethered jailbreak, and are completely uninterested in Apple’s new flat icons in iOS 7, it is highly recommended that you ignore any software update at this point for your iOS device and wait for further confirmation on the progress being made on the untethered iOS 6.1.3 / 6.1.4 jailbreak.

Cydia on iOS 6.1.4 (CDMA iPhone 5)

If you’re already running iOS 6, all the way up to iOS 6.1.2, you’re on the greener side of the fence. You can jailbreak iOS 6 using Evasi0n on all iOS devices capable of running the said firmware.

Update x1: Published to a Ghostbin share, Winocm has now offered up some of the code required to make the jailbreak work for iOS 6.1.4, and we’ve heard reports of people managing to do just that. The downside here is a rather large one though – it’s not like most public jailbreaks.

Anyone wanting to download an executable and have their iPhone jailbroken in seconds is out of luck we’re afraid. Instead, Winocm’s code is just part of the magic required to get Cydia installed on an iPhone, and users will have to use their own kernel exploits in order to get the ball rolling. That’s obviously no mean feat, so we don’t think that this is going to be the start of a jailbreaking phase where everyone rushes out to get their iOS 6.1.4 devices jailbroken. Still, it’s a start.

Even with iOS 7 just around the corner, many people would be happy to stick with the last 6.x release if it meant that they could keep their beloved jailbreak, and Winocm seemed to have all the answers. Today, he shared those answers, but they’re not quite all you’ll need.

iPhone 5C Render Running iOS 7 Gets Virtual Hands-On Treatment [VIDEO]

We are now less than 72 hours away from the iPhone 5S and 5C announcement, and while it’s understandable that all the fuss will no doubt be about the new flagship handset coming out of Cupertino, it’s arguable that the most interesting device that we expect to be announced on Monday is the new budget iPhone.

Set to be dubbed the iPhone 5C, presumably due to its choice of colors, the new handset is basically an iPhone 5 in new clothes if the rumors are to be believed. The iPhone 5 is still one of the best smartphones on the market as far as we’re concerned, so the idea of it being a budget device in a couple of days is blowing our minds a tad.

Throw in some lovely looking colors and what is quite possibly going to be a more palm-friendly chassis than the iPhone 5/5S body has turned out to be, and we find ourselves more interested in seeing what Apple has in store for those not wanting to splash the cash on a premium handset this September.

So, with all that in mind, we sat down all gooey-eyed to watch a new rendered video which depicts what the iPhone 5C may or may not look like when it’s running iOS 7 as well as a collection of popular apps. We’ve got to say that it looks stunning in the video, and if the colors look as good in real life as they do on YouTube, then we can’t wait to cast our eyes upon them.

Created by Maxim Khoroshev, the video is well worth a watch, especially if the iPhone 5C holds any kind of intrigue for you, just as it does us. That’s not to say we won’t be in line for an iPhone 5S in a couple of weeks – it just means we’ll look at the 5C while we’re waiting to pay!

Research Reveals Smartphones Cause ‘Digital Dementia’

If you ever wondered why your memory seems to be getting worse, then according to one South Korean doctor the reason may just be that smartphone you’re so attached to.

In a world where we all rely on smartphones, computers and the Internet to run our lives,  Dr. Byun Gi-won, a South Korean expert in cognitive problems related to computer and smartphone usage at the Balance Brain Center in the country believes that the very technology we use to help us remember things may actually be part of the reason we forget them in the first place.

Cases of so-called digital dementia manifest themselves as memory deficits, lack of emotion and attention disorders that have historically been blamed on things such as video games. The humble smartphone is now finding itself at the center of research being conducted with the aim of better understanding digital dementia and the part our modern technological lives has to play in it.

Byun Gi-won told a newspaper report that our reliance on smartphones is hampering the balanced development of our brains and, as if we predicted it a few paragraphs earlier, games are also to blame. With South Korea’s heavy use of both smartphones and gaming devices across the board, the country is certainly well placed to provide insight into what effects it may have.

Gi-won said: “Heavy [technology] users are likely to develop the left side of  their brains, leaving the right side untapped or underdeveloped.” As eluded to by that comment, smartphones are not the only potential cause for digital dementia, but any technology could potentially be the reason that some of us here at Redmond Pie can barely remember our own phone numbers, let alone those of the people we need to contact. We’ve been using technology throughout our adolescent lives and as a result, apparently, are particularly susceptible to the affliction as our brains were still developing during prolonged reliance on, and use of, technology.

So, if your memory is getting worse it might be time to put that phone down and pick up a book. So long as you can remember where you left it, of course.

Iron Man 3 Movie With iTunes Extras Now Available To Download, JARVIS App For iPhone Releasing Next Week

Users of iPhones come in all shapes and sizes, but when you find a proper hardcore fan of Apple’s smartphone then the chances are pretty good that they’re also rather keen on a spot of science fiction. We’d have to count ourselves firmly in that category, and we’d definitely argue that it’s no bad thing.

It’s for that reason that a new app with a particular movie tie-in may do quite well, but let’s start at the beginning.

Fans of the Avengers movie last year will probably already have seen the new Iron Man 3 movie. It’s not brand spanking new, no, but it’s new enough to be landing on iTunes in the last day or so, and it’s available complete with iTunes Extras, meaning you’ll get more than just the standard movie when you hand over your $20. Sweet.

What really caught our attention about all this though is the fact that the folks at Marvel weren’t content to just launch the movie and then sit back, raking in the money as people throw it at them. Instead, they also began work on a JARVIS-themed iPhone app, with the thing apparently being released next week.

For those that have been living in a cave for the last few years, JARVIS is Robert Downey Junior AKA Tony Stark AKA Iron Man’s artificial intelligence-powered butler. If you imagine Siri, but with infinitely more power and the ability to actually understand what you say more often than twice in every six months-worth of shouting at it, then you won’t be far off. In short, JARVIS is awesome.

Now, owing to the fact that the iPhone isn’t quite the real JARVIS and, well, the fact that it’s fictional, this app isn’t going to let you have your iPhone run your (imaginary) Iron Man suit. What it will do though is pretend to be Siri, with an Iron Man twist.

Like Tony Stark, users can engage JARVIS through voice-activated commands -Receive messages from JARVIS, download ringtones, post to Facebook and more -Check time, local weather as well as set alarms through the integrated Clock mode -Initiate media delivered in messages, including video, audio, image, ringtone or website -Install unique ringtones -Unlock 42 unique Iron Man suits (plus additional "Ghost" file) -When connected to the same network as the Blu-ray player, JARVIS will function as the Blu-ray remote control, or the user can simply "say what you see" and the app will do the rest.

Whether it will actually be any good is debatable, and we certainly have our doubts. If you’re a diehard Iron Man fan though, we’re sure it’s going to be worth a download.

Apple TV To Get Software Update On September 10th, Here Are The Details

Apple TV, once described by Tim Cook as a "hobby" to the Cupertino company, hasn’t seen a great deal of change in its lifespan, but with quite a few services having been added recently including the likes of VEVO, Disney Channel and others, and with iTunes Radio already confirmed for it, it’s certainly as rich in available content as it ever has been. With a big event confirmed for September 10th, some had hoped that Apple would be bringing some new hardware in its gradual growth push in the TV market, but it now seems certain that this will not be the case. There will, however, be a handsome software update, with a couple of interesting features. Details after the break!

One intriguing new addition to the fold allows users to take content bought on one Apple TV device and play it on another. Ideal if you’re at a friend’s house and don’t wish to move your little black box from its pride of place by your HDTV, the system incorporates both AirPlay and Apple’s servers to allow you to connect to your own content even if you’re not at home.

The process involves using an iPhone to "call" your Apple TV, sending it a message to begin streaming to your friend’s Apple TV. Essentially, it’s an extended version of AirPlay, but a very useful one at that, and I’m sure many confirmed Apple TV owners will be taking full advantage when it does eventually roll out.

Of course, you could always log out of one account and log back in, but as anybody who has used the three-buttoned Apple TV remote to accomplish any kind of typing, it’s tedious to say the least. This method is much quicker, and once you depart from your friend’s house, they won’t have to go through the rigmarole of putting their credentials back in once more, all part of this software update which will likely be numbered as version 7. Though the iOS 7 ‘flat’ makeover for Apple TV isn’t confirmed as part of this update.

With Google Chromecast costing only $35, Apple TV has a bit of competition, and although you get the impression that the search giant is not throwing much weight behind its new streamer, the fact that Google is competing at all may coax Apple into a more aggressive stance in the TV market.

So, while there’s still no sign of the elusive connected TV effort from Apple, Apple TV will be getting some kind of software update in the near future.
