Jailbreak iOS 6.1.3 Using Redsn0w – Tethered

iOS 6.1.3 has now been released, complete with fixes for no less than 6 security flaws, 4 of which have resulted in the jailbreak tool evasi0n not working on this firmware.  If you haven’t upgraded your firmware, don’t do it because you will lose the jailbreak. If you have updated a newer device to 6.1.3 you cannot downgrade and re-jailbreak using evasi0n.  However, if you have an A4 or older device you can jailbreak on iOS 6.1.3 using Redsn0w, a tethered tool. So, for anyone who has a pre A5 device, here’s how to jailbreak iOS 6.1.3 :

Supported Devices :

Redsn0w is compatible with the iPhone 4, iPod Touch 4 and iPhone 3GS. Make sure your device is running on iOS 6.1.3 before you start.

About Redsn0w :

Redsn0w is one of the most popular utilities to ever hit the jailbreak scene. First released back in 2008 by its creator, the iPhone Dev Team, Redsn0w used to be called QuickPWN but the name was soon changed. Redsn0w is one of the more versatile of the early tools as it supports both Mac and Windows operating systems and it provides untethered and tethered options.

Unfortunately, the untethered jailbreak options are limited to the iPhone 4 or earlier running on iOS versions up to 5.1.1. Anything newer than this can only use Redsn0w to carry out a tethered jailbreak.  Support for the iPhone 4, 4S and 5 are as follows:

• iPhone 4 – iOS 3.1.3 to 6.1.3
• iPhone 4S – iOS 5 to 5.1.1
• iPhone 5 – Not Supported on iOS 6 – iOS 7 [awaiting release from iPhone Dev]

Redsn0w is regularly updated to take advantage of any exploits discovered in the iOS firmware. The latest version of Redsn0w is 0.9.15b3. If you have a pre A5 device, you can use Redsn0w to jailbreak iOS 6.1.3 although it will be a tethered utility.  You can also use it to downgrade back to iOS 6.1.2 and then use evasi0n to jailbreak untethered.  Anything on an A5 or A6 processor cannot be downgraded or jailbroken using Redsn0w, not even tethered.

How to Jailbreak iOS 6.1.3 using Redsn0w :

1. Download iOS 6 IPSW from here
2. Download RedsnOw 0.9.15b3
3. Open up Redsn0w, select Extras then Select IPSW.
4. Direct Redsn0w to the iOS 6 IPSW you downloaded earlier
5. Now, from the main screen in Redsn0w just select Jailbreak and make sure you follow the instructions that will appear on the screen.
6. When you are asked to, click to install Cydia.
7. Next you will be asked to place your device into DFU mode – Redsn0w will give you full instructions on how to do this. ( Image below – iPhone 5 not supported for 6.1.3 jailbreak . For instructions purposes only)
8. Redsn0w should now start the tethered jailbreak process on your device. This should take no more than a couple of minutes to complete. You will see codes running on the screen of your phone as shown below . 
9. If you face the problem of “Failed to Decrypt Kernel” , follow this article to fix the issue with your jailbreak .

Rebooting your Device :

Don’t forget that this jailbreak is tethered. Should your device reboot or you lose power to it, you will be stuck on the Apple logo. All you need to do is connect up your iPod or iPhone to your computer, open Redsn0w, select Extras and then click on Just boot.  Your device will now boot up jailbroken again.
